The anatomy of the spine talks about its structural components and location in the body. Holding the body upright, the spine is made of thirty-four bones called vertebrae. Each of them is stacked one on top of the other to form the spinal column. In the lumen inside these bones, lies the spinal cord. Each vertebra has an intervertebral disc between them. The spinal cord is protected by three-layered meninges and cerebrospinal fluid.
