The uterus, also known as the womb, is a female reproductive organ that plays an important role in the female reproductive system. It is a hollow, muscular organ located in the pelvis, between the bladder and the rectum. The primary function of the uterus is to provide a suitable environment for the implantation and development of a fertilized egg and aid in pregnancy. The uterus provides nourishment and support for the developing embryo. If pregnancy does not occur, the thickened uterine endometrium is shed during menstruation.
