About "Hypertension"
When the pressure exerted by the flowing blood on the walls of the blood vessels is high enough to cause health problems, it is called hypertension. The normal blood pressure should be 120/80mmHg, which is measured by a sphygmomanometer. The blood pressure depends on the amount of blood pumped by the heart and the resistance to blood flow in the arteries, so narrower the artery, higher will be the blood pressure. The symptoms of hypertension are headaches, dyspnea, nosebleeds, and shoulder pain. Depending on the cause, the two types of hypertension are:
- Primary hypertension – There is no identifiable cause.
- Secondary hypertension – Hypertension due to an underlying health condition like obstructive sleep apnea, kidney diseases, thyroid problems, etc.
