About "OPG Interpretation"

Oral Panoramic Radiograph (OPG) is a commonly used imaging technique in dentistry. It is difficult to interpret an OPG because it is a complex projection of the jaws, teeth, and the surrounding structures with multiple superimpositions and distortions. As an OPG is taken by an X-ray tube that revolves around the patient’s head, the right and posterior parts of the image represent lateral views, and the anterior portion gives an anterior-posterior view. Apart from both jaws and teeth, OPG images other bony structures like the pterygoid plate, pterygomaxillary fissure, zygomatic process and arch, temporomandibular joint, lateral and inferior orbital rim, infraorbital canal, and the hyoid bone. It also shows soft tissues and air spaces like the nose, ear, tongue, lingual tonsils, epiglottis, soft palate, nasal fossa, nasopharynx, and oropharynx.
