About "Diabetes Mellitus"
Diabetes mellitus occurs when the body’s ability to process blood glucose is impaired, resulting in high blood sugar levels. Some of the symptoms of diabetes are increased thirst, frequent urination, excessive hunger, unexplained weight loss, and fatigue. There are three types of diabetes:
- Type I diabetes – It occurs when there is no production of insulin, and otherwise called juvenile diabetes.
- Type II diabetes – Here, the body produces insulin, but the cells in the body does not respond properly to regulate the blood glucose.
- Gestational diabetes – It is diabetes seen in pregnant women when the body becomes less sensitive to insulin.
Untreated diabetes mellitus can cause heart and kidney problems, nerve damage, skin diseases, and eyesight problems.
