A minor surgery done to remove the tip of the tooth’s root is called apicoectomy. It is done when a root canal treated tooth gets re-infected and re-root canal treatment is not possible. It is also indicated if an infected tooth cannot be treated with conventional root canal treatment. Here, an incision is made in the gums, and all inflamed and infected tissues are removed. Then the tip of the tooth root is exposed and removed. The end of the root is filled with a biocompatible material.
