Cancer of the blood-forming tissues, which includes bone marrow and the lymphatic system, is called leukemia. Here, the body produces abnormal white blood cells, that do not function properly. The common symptoms of leukemia are fever, chills, weakness, frequent infections, unintentional weight loss, swollen lymph nodes, easy bruising, nosebleeds, night sweats, and bone pain. Depending on the progression of the disease, leukemia is classified into acute and chronic leukemia. And depending on the type of white blood cell affected, the two types of leukemia are lymphocytic leukemia and myelogenous leukemia. The common treatments used against leukemia are chemotherapy, radiation therapy, biological therapy, targeted therapy, and stem cell transplant.
