Know How iCliniq’s Doctor Accurately Diagnosed a Patient With Gilbert’s Syndrome

#icliniq100hrs success story

A 28-year-old female with reports stating high bilirubin levels wanted to know what caused her liver damage. She also mentioned that she had the habit of alcohol consumption, cigarette smoking, and dietary fasting. But she said she stopped drinking alcohol once she had this liver issue. The patient was very worried and wanted to know what those reports meant. She also mentioned that her mother had nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and wanted to know if that was related.

Our iCliniq doctor went through her reports thoroughly and diagnosed her with Gilbert's syndrome (a genetic condition that affects the body’s ability to process bilirubin). He mentioned that it is a benign condition and does not require any treatment. To confirm the diagnosis, he suggested a complete liver function test and blood tests. Our doctor said since her mother has nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), she also has a risk of getting it as the fatty liver is the predecessor of NASH, and she had fatty liver. He suggested some lifestyle changes like cutting down on alcohol, high sugar, and a high-fat diet and asked her to exercise regularly.

After a few days, the patient reverted, saying that the diagnosis was indeed Gilbert's syndrome, and she was startled at how accurate our doctor was. The patient also complained of her eye turning yellow, which she believed was due to high bilirubin.

Our doctor asked her to relax as Gilbert's syndrome is a benign condition. He also mentioned that the yellow eyes might take some time to resolve and might not be due to bilirubin. The doctor asked her not to worry, just cut down on alcohol, and to see an ophthalmologist if the yellow eyes persist for more than a month. Otherwise, she is doing great.

The patient was delightfully surprised by our doctor's diagnosis and was extremely grateful for his empathetic nature.
