Know How Our iCliniq Specialist Empathetically Guided an Exasperated Patient on IVF

#icliniq100hrs success story

A 33-year-old patient who had four failed IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) cycles consulted a fertility expert on iCliniq.com. After the first IVF failed, the patient underwent hysteroscopy to remove a uterine polyp. But the second IVF cycle also failed, and she was diagnosed with endometriosis (tissues similar to the uterine lining grow outside the uterus) and hydrosalpinx (fallopian tubes get blocked and fluid gets filled near the ovary). So, she had laparoscopic surgery to remove a cyst on the left ovary and to clear all adhesions. Even after the surgery, the third and fourth IVF failed. During the fourth IVF, she had severe pain right from egg retrieval, which subsided after two days. And she also had pain after the day of embryo transfer, which was so severe that she could not move the next day. She had tiny bits of brown tissue like spotting for three days after the embryo transfer. The transferred embryo quality was satisfactory, but still, the cycle failed. She wanted to know why the embryos were getting arrested on Day 3, and despite an improvement in egg quality, why was her implantation failing. She now felt like donor eggs were the only option left, which she was not interested in.

Our doctor sympathized with the patient and congratulated her for being so brave throughout the IVF treatments. The doctor understood her problem and told her that most women experience discomfort and do not experience so much pain. According to the doctor, this pain will be present every time the patient undergoes IVF, so she suggested taking a break for a month or two and trying again. As the patient's hormone levels were acceptable, and the egg quality was decent, the doctor asked her to try again with her eggs.

The patient was happy to see that the doctor was genuinely concerned and sympathized with her problem. She informed the doctor that her pain subsided after eight days of embryo transfer, and she is completely pain-free now. She wanted to know if she took some months off and then tried, would IVF be successful. Or would getting another laparoscopy to remove all the adhesions (adhesiolysis) and then going for frozen embryo transfer help implantation.

The doctor thought adhesiolysis followed by frozen embryo transfer was the better option. Her body will not be overloaded with hormones for stimulation and will be easier on her health. As IVF has a 40 % success rate, the doctor suggested a few things that might increase the success rate. This included eating healthily, avoiding processed foods, consuming more vegetables, including avocados in her diet, avoiding red meat, losing excess weight, avoiding alcohol and tea, and exercising daily for 30 minutes.

The patient thanked the doctor for giving her confidence and for the detailed and empathetic answer. She promised to follow the doctor's advice, and if she conceived in the future, she would consider iCliniq's doctor to be the main reason for it.
