Cancer of the plasma cells, which is a type of white blood cells, is called myeloma. These plasma cells fight infections in the body by producing antibodies. In myeloma, the abnormal plasma cells do not have this infection-fighting property, which makes the body susceptible to various infections. These cancer cells multiply and are produced in large quantities, and they circulate in the blood, which leads to kidney failure and affects other organs of the body. The signs and symptoms include excessive calcium in the blood, anemia, osteoporosis, high protein in blood and urine, and weight loss. Some of the available treatment options are targeted therapy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, biological therapy, corticosteroids, and bone marrow transplant.
