Cerebral palsy is a group of neurological problems, seen in early childhood, that causes movement disorders. Depending on the severity, the child might have difficulty moving certain parts of the body. It is not a progressive disease and does not necessarily affect intelligence and cognitive ability. Any damage to the upper part of the brain (cerebrum) before, during, or within 5 years of age can cause cerebral palsy. The symptoms are stiff or floppy movements, poor balance, unusual crawling, limited range of movement, ear and eye problems, seizures, and drooling. There is no cure for cerebral palsy, and only symptomatic treatment is given.
