About "Tic Disorders"
Tics are muscle movements that can occur in any part of the body, which are uncontrollable, repetitive, and unwanted. These disorders usually start in early childhood and are more common in males than in females. The two types of tics are motor (movement of limbs or other parts) and vocal (repetitive sounds). The types of tic disorders are:
- Transient tic disorder – Here, the child might have one or more tics for at least a month, but less than a year consecutively.
- Chronic motor or vocal tic disorder – Motor or vocal tics that appear before 18 years of age and lasts for more than a year.
- Tourette’s syndrome – This is the most severe and least common tic disorder which causes multiple motor and vocal tics.
