About "cervical cancer screening"
Cervical cancer is a tumor arising from the lowermost part of the uterus, that connects to the vagina. It is more commonly diagnosed in women in the reproductive age group of 30 to 45 years.
There are other risk factors such as HPV infection, HIV, smoking, genital herpes, history of organ transplant, long-term steroid intake and use of oral contraceptives.
Women at risk are screened using a Pap smear test where the specialist collects a sample of cells from the surface of the cervix. If abnormal cells are found, it is followed by HPV testing or biopsy.
