Neonatal therapy is the science of diagnosis and treating a child as a whole in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit). A neonatal therapist is a type of occupational therapist, who takes care of babies in NICU and provide specialized therapeutic interventions to each baby, as it affects the baby’s long-term development, prevent any adverse developmental problems, and nurture the infant-family relationship. They address the neurobehavioral, neuromotor, neuroendocrine, musculoskeletal, sensory, and psychosocial development, and treat the child as a whole. Such an approach is highly beneficial for premature and medically compromised infants requiring intensive care.
