Posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injuries are less common than anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries. PCL is one of the main ligaments of the knee and connects the ACL to the thigh bone. Direct damage or a tear of this ligament can cause pain, swelling, and instability. Injuries to PCL is seen in car accidents and contact sports. The pain and swelling depend on the extent of the injury. Mild to moderate pain and swelling can be relieved with the help of painkillers like Ibuprofen or Naproxen. You might also need knee brace and clutches until the ligament heals. Surgery is usually not needed.
