Eating disorders are a group of serious mental illnesses that result in irregular eating habits due to serious concerns about the way they look. It can affect a person physically and psychologically and can result in life-threatening complications. The common types of eating disorders are:
- Anorexia nervosa – It is when a person is extremely underweight, and still refuses to eat certain food items, and is very scared to gain weight.
- Bulimia nervosa – People with bulimia nervosa cannot control their eating, as they have periods of bingeing and purging. They eat large amounts of food at a time and try to compensate for it by fasting, vomiting, enema, or severe exercise.
- Binge eating – People with this disorder eat unusually large meals often, and lack control over the amount of food they eat.
