Ankylosing spondylitis is a type of arthritis that affects the spine or lower back. It is an inflammatory disease that results in pain, stiffness, and reduced flexibility of the spine. As the disease progresses, it results in the vertebral bones getting fused. Apart from pain and stiffness of the spine, it also causes heel and feet pain, neck pain, and pain in joints. The exact cause is still not known, but people with HLA-B27 gene are highly susceptible for developing this condition. Painkillers like Naproxen and Indomethacin are used to relieve pain. In cases of severe pain, tumor necrosis factor (TNF) or interleukin 17 (IL-17) inhibitor are used.
