Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a type of sleep disorder, where a person repeatedly stops and starts breathing during sleep. Apnea or apneic episodes are periods when the breathing stops. Snoring is the characteristic sign of this disease. As apneic episodes cause reduced oxygen supply to the brain, some of the symptoms seen are headaches, forgetfulness, irritability, feeling drowsy, depression, hyperactivity, loss of libido, and leg edema. If left untreated, it can lead to severe conditions like hypertension, diabetes, stroke, and heart disease. It is commonly seen in overweight and older individuals.
