Having a busy lifestyle might at times get in the way of your food habits. It might take a little time and effort but make sure that the major portion of the food you eat is home cooked. A home-cooked meal has several health benefits which you will be rejoicing at the later stage of your life too.
Here are a few simple reasons as to why dining out on a regular basis can become dangerous.
1. Fatty cuts and blends
Cooking at home means you are the one who is responsible for grocery shopping as well. In that case, you are most likely to make healthy choices like lean beans and ground beef while shopping. This is not the case while dining out; here more importance is given to taste rather than health.
2. Cooking in grease
When it comes to restaurants, most of the cooking grease is melted butter or other fat-filled greases which has been simmering continuously. While cooking at home we typically use several alternatives to butter like olive oil and coconut oil which are much healthier.
3. Rich sauces
While eating out, most of your food is topped with creamy and thick sauces to add flavor to your food in a more than enough quantum. While this might be a fest, for your eyes and a mouthwatering treat to your tongue, it is not so good for your health. While cooking at home, just enough sauces are used to bring in the flavor and the food is later pumped up with healthy herbs and spices to add the taste.
4. Hidden added sugar
The ingredients used in a meal at your favorite restaurant contain excess sugar, more than enough salt and an abundance of unhealthy oil to bring up the taste once again. This is not the case in a home cooked meal where the primary objective is health rather than taste.
5. Lower quality ingredients
Unlike what we believe, not all restaurants use ingredients that are of high-end quality, fully organic and are sourced on a daily basis. Chain restaurants usually purchase ingredients from a single distributor in massive quantities which are stored over an extended period.
6. High calories
The calorie count of a standard meal almost doubles when compared to the same meal prepared at home. Apart from this, eating at a restaurant makes you go for an appetizer, an extra sugar-rich dessert and a couple of cocktails at times which amount to three to four times the average calorie intake at home.
