Female patient, married, age-28, weight-80 kg, height-5'4", has irregular periods, suffering from infertility, and acne on the face. She is taking hormonal treatment for the last 8 months. What is the best treatment for her? Please connect and help her.
She is clearly having obesity with a BMI of 30.3 kgs/Sq meter. Hence there is a need for weight reduction, her weight should be 61 kgs whch shows an excess of 19 kgs. That means a major lifystyl modification is needed. Plus she should get her Thyroid function tested as well as FSH & LH. If she has associated hypothyroidism that needs to b e corrected. Diet control, regular exercise and weight monitoring is necessary. Plus if hypothyroidism is present then that also needs to be corrected. She may be benefitted with Metformin 500 mg twice a day in addition. Thanks.
She is obese as her BMI is 30. She requires weight reduction. But in pcods, the weight reduction with diet and exercise is very difficult to achieve. So the patients lose their motivation.
But if they follow the diet and do regular exercises it can make their blood parameters normal even though the actual weight reduction which the patients generally expect doesn’t happen. The focus should be on keeping their body healthy with lifestyle changes so that other health problems doesn’t occur.

Metformin and hormonal pills are not the solution for PCOS. For your kind information, Metformin is recently recalled by FDA in USA as it risks the carcinoma.
