Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 21-year-old female. I am on oral contraceptives. I was in the ER for irregular vaginal bleeding (red to dark brown and watery), in the absence of pregnancy or a miscarriage a week ago. My symptoms progressed; I got nausea, fatigue, and tiredness, tender and sore breasts, bloating, and constipation. I took a pregnancy test last night, and it was very faintly positive. I called my gynecologist they did a blood pregnancy test today, which showed negative again. I had an abdominal and vaginal ultrasound and a CT last week, which did not show any abnormality. Am I in the very early stage of pregnancy? Is it related to my irregular bleeding?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The irregular bleeding in dark brown color is associated with the oral contraceptive you take. When there is a delay for more than 24 hours between two doses, an early withdrawal is initiated in the form of a bleed. When you continue the medicines, it presents as spotting and light bleeding rather than continuous menstrual flow. This is not pregnancy for sure. For discussion and details, you may follow up.

Regards.
