Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My urine test and blood test came positive. I opted for an abortion around the sixth week. Even after the second dose of four vaginal medicine, I did not bleed at all (very light bleeding which does not justify pad) neither I felt any pain. In my ultrasound, no gestation sac was found but the thickness of endometrial line was 13 mm with traces of fluid and a cyst in right ovary. I took the hCG test again. There it was a huge drop compared to two weeks back (from 18000 to 6000). My doctor took all necessary scan to rule out ectopic pregnancy. So we are sure that this not the case of ectopic. Am I still pregnant? Should I worry about the thick endometrial lining or the cyst in the ovary? When should I expect my next period? Or was this just a case of biochemical pregnancy? Will leftover in the uterus will be shedding down on their own or in next period? I have beta thalassemia minor but perfectly healthy.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The normal schedule of medical abortion is Mifepristone 200 mg single dose and after 24 to 48 hours take orally or vaginally four tablets of Misoprostol. The medicines you have taken are not according to the guideline. So I cannot say that there is no chance of pregnancy. Repeat a pregnancy test and repeat ultrasounds pelvis. If there is no pregnancy you will get periods less than four weeks after taking abortion medicines.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply,

We had followed the same guidelines Mifepristone 200 mg single dose and after 24 to 48 hours, taken orally or vaginally four tablets of Misoprostol. But I did not bleed and it has been more than 72 hours.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If you had followed the proper procedure the success of that is 98 %. So that means it is unlikely that you could continue the pregnancy. However, you should go for a repeat pregnancy test at least.
