Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My friend had a 45 days gestation. She took tablet Mifegest 400 mg, and there was bleeding for 20 hours. Some clotted and blackish blood came out. Now, the bleeding has stopped. Is the condition fine or not?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Please say more details about her. It is like induced abortion. In some patients, after taking medicine, it comes out in one go and then bleeding stops. In others, it comes gradually in episodes, and it might need further intervention. She can have a transvaginal scan to know whether the process is complete or whether there is any product remaining in the vagina. If the bleeding continues, the products will come out soon. If the bleeding is stopped, then the products can remain there. She might need a further medical and surgical intervention. The scan describes the need for the plan (attachment removed to protect the patient identity). In a case of retained products, she can have an infection or sepsis. So it is better to start taking oral antibiotics prophylactically to avoid having an infection. Take tablet Augmentin 625 mg (Amoxicillin with Clavulanic acid) for every 12 hours for five days, and she can have a transvaginal scan to check for any retained products. In case of severe bleeding or cramps, she needs to report emergency care soon.
