Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a third molar abscess and it is painful. It is the first time I have gotten this. I initially thought it was a common mouth ulcer but my dentist informed me this is a third molar abscess pain that I was experiencing. Is there any antibiotic or medications to help soothe and cure the area? Currently, I am taking Combiflam (Ibuprofen and Paracetamol) as a painkiller.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

As for temporary relief, you may take Amoxicillin clavulanate antibiotic along with Metronidazole for five days and may continue the painkillers SOS that you are taking already. Also, salt and warm water mouth rinse 3 to 4 times. But this is just a temporary solution, for a permanent solution you will have to get the abscess drained, cleaned, and irrigated. Moreover, an oral x-ray can help in telling the exact diagnosis as well as the proper future treatment plan.

I hope my answer was helpful to you. Do revert back for more details and information.

Thanks and take care.
