Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had severe acne issues during my teenage, and they subsided over the years. I am 30 years old, but I still get them every two or three months like a bump filled with pus around my nose and cheeks. Some triggering factors are reduced intake of water, seasonal change, trimming the hair, and heat. But the scar marks persist for around six months. So what can be done for the scar marks? I consulted a doctor last year who prescribed me Benzoyl Peroxide, but the scar is not fading. Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I reviewed the images (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). The ingrown hair is due to the wrong way of trimming the hair. The sharp tip of the hair comes in close contact with the skin surface due to the wearing of tight skinny jeans in hot, humid environments. So, it is more prone to grow sideways or curl back into the hair follicle and get stuck under the skin surface, leading to irritation and inflammation of the overlying skin. Treatment for ingrown hairs can vary; sometimes, the hair will heal spontaneously without any specific treatment. Treatment for ingrown hairs and allergic contact dermatitis is almost the same. I would suggest the following:

  1. 0.1 % Mometasone (Mometasone furoate) cream once daily for two weeks.

Thank you.
