Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I think I have fungal acne on and around my mouth. What to do to treat fungal acne?

Answered by Dr. Shama Naaz

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Photograph of face shows (attachment removed to protect patient identity) red raised acne located perioraly and no comedones. It looks like an allergic reaction to any skincare products or OTC steroid containing cream. Please mention if you have any itching or sensitivity or burning after sun exposure?

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

It is a little itchy. Before I got this, they just appeared to be small bumps. I then tried Nizoral overnight, so do you think it reacted badly to that and became inflamed? I could have sworn they just looked like a lot of red zits.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Nizoral (Ketoconazole) is an antifungal medication. It has some side effects like stinging, swelling, irritation, or redness of the treated skin. So please do not use it, and in the meantime, clean your face with a gentle cleanser, and then apply a hypoallergenic moisturizer twice daily over the lesions. The redness will take a week to subside after stopping Nizoral, so please be patient. Also, do not scratch the skin lesions. If you feel itchy, then you can apply a soothing calamine lotion over the affected areas.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
