Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 22-year-old woman struggling with persistent pimples and overall poor skin condition, which is affecting my self-esteem. I have had acne since my teens, and I thought it would clear up by now, but I am still getting regular breakouts, especially around my chin and forehead. My skin often looks red and inflamed, with some scarring from previous pimples. I have tried over-the-counter (OTC) products, but nothing seems to work long-term. What could be causing my ongoing acne at this age? Are there any treatments or skincare routines you recommend for someone my age with this skin condition? I am also wondering if diet or stress could be contributing factors. How can I improve my skin's overall health and appearance? Any insights would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
I have carefully reviewed your information and understand your concerns regarding acne persisting into your early 30s. It is quite common for hormonal fluctuations to contribute to acne during this age range. These fluctuations typically begin in most individuals around ages 12 to 13 and can continue into the early 30s due to changes in skin oil production.
Acne can be influenced by various factors, including genetics, age, stress, diet, certain cosmetics, scalp oiliness, medical conditions like PCOD (polycystic ovarian disease), thyroid disorders, and medications for other health issues. These factors alter sebum production and skin pH (potential of Hydrogen), triggering acne-causing bacteria already present on the skin.
I suggest the following for your skincare regimen:
Morning Routine:
Ahaglow S foaming face wash - It contains aloe extract, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, sodium laureth sulfate, and glycerin. Use twice daily for cleansing.
Cleargel nico gel - It contains Clindamycin and nicotinamide. Apply on pimples.
Zitmoist gel - It contains sodium hyaluronate, panthenol, Nicotinamide, aloe Vera gel, allantoin and vitamin E. Use it as a moisturizer.
Acne UV (ultraviolet) gel sunscreen - Apply in the morning reapply every three hours between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Evening Routine:
Ahaglow S foaming face wash - Use again for cleansing.
Cleargel nico gel - Apply on pimples only.
Zitmoist gel - Use as a moisturizer.
Additionally I suggest:
Maintain a diet low in oily foods, fried foods, sweets, red meat, milk, and fast food.
Increase intake of fruits, vegetables, fiber, and yogurt, and consume at least 84 ounces of water daily.
Avoid popping or picking acne.
Manage stress and ensure regular sleep patterns.
Avoid spicy foods and heavy skincare products.
Always patch-test new products before full use.
Engage in regular exercise at least three times a week.
Chemical peel procedures should be considered alongside medications. To reduce sebum secretion, they are typically performed every three weeks for three to six sessions at a skin clinic.
Consulting a gynecologist to rule out PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) or other underlying hormonal conditions is also advisable.
I hope this helps.

Thank you.
