Hi doctor,
I decided to change myself because I was a bad student. I struggle with getting things done. I plan to do stuff things beforehand. At first, I was able to do things and I felt excited while doing it. But when the time comes to do the tasks that I planned, I lack the motivation to do things and I cannot be consistent. What to do?
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I congratulate you on your effort. Motivation is a tricky thing but can be learned. There are two types of motivation such as extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. Extrinsic motivation is when we are motivated to do something because of external influences. We try to do things to prove something to someone or to get external validation. Intrinsic motivation is done with your own need for achievement based on your own beliefs, needs, cause, liking, and dreams. Both of them are required.
But, in long term, intrinsic motivation stays and gives us constant focus and concentration. To develop it, we need to ask questions to ourselves. Make a list of internal drives or factors that contribute to your will to achieve a particular goal. Once you are clear about it, it is easy to achieve your need. You can also try to do a Pomodoro technique. This technique involves breaking a big task into a small one in twenty-five-minute slots and continue doing them. Doing it in a reduced duration of time itself is a big motivation.
