Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have two sons. The elder one is 13 years old, and the younger one is 10 years old. I used to give them a deworming syrup Nemocid once in six months, twice with one week gap. Now I am doubtful that whether it works or not. I have not consulted any doctor yet. Could you please tell me the appropriate deworming medicine along with dosage? Both my children appear skinny and are fussy eaters. My younger son complains of stomach aches occasionally.

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for writing, and I totally understand your concern.

Nemocid contains Pyrantel Pamoate, which can be given for worm infection. The best deworming medicine is Tablet Albendazole. Since both of your sons are above 2 years of age, I suggest, one tablet of Albendazole (400 mg) on an empty stomach. Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply. I would also like to know, how often should I give the tablet Albendazole? Was I wrong in giving Nemocid previously? Will it cause any problems? Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Repeat dose depends upon the baseline prevalence of the infection.Tablet Albendazole is used in various worm infections. Its dose and duration varies depending on the type of worm infestation. I suggest one dose of Tablet Albendazole 400 mg now and you may repeat it after six months if needed. It can be given on an empty stomach or after food. There is no problem in taking Tablet Nemocid (Pyrantel Pamoate), but the dosage should be taken care. Always consult a doctor before taking any medication. Regarding the thin built and stomach ache issues of your children, I suggest you consult a pediatrician. The cause of symptoms should be found out and proper medication should be taken depending on the cause.

Hope you find my reply helpful.

Thanks.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
