Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a couple of questions regarding the pregnancy. I did a pregnancy test with the strip and there were two pink lines, I went to the doctor and did an ultrasound that says it was 5 cm wide. The doctor stated it was three weeks old. The pregnancy could have happened around three weeks ago or seven weeks ago as I had unprotected sex during this period. I have been drinking wine almost every night. My concern is regarding if it would have happened three weeks ago or seven weeks ago, could alcohol consumption affect the baby?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I need to know about your last menstrual date and how were your previous cycles like how many days and whether it was regular or irregular, So that I can tell you properly whether it was of the seventh week or third-week activity. Usually, ovulation occurs around the 14th day of the menstrual cycle, intercourse close to that 14th day should consider your fertile course. Alcohol could affect on baby adversely, but right now we cannot predict whether it has affected the baby or not. I suggest you should quit alcohol and smoking till your lactational period. Get a neonatal scan around 11 weeks and an anomaly scan around 20 weeks of gestation it will help you know whether the baby is having an anomaly or not. I hope I have cleared all your doubts.

Thank you.
