My son,3 years, has allergy and eczema. How to manage?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My three-year-old son has severe multi-allergy symptoms. He has intense skin peeling on his face, redness and wounds under his eyes, very dry and rough skin, especially at night. He scratches his skin and scalp constantly and cannot sleep well.

He was previously diagnosed with multiple allergies and eczema. Recent symptoms started worsening three days ago. He is currently using Urlus (oral) and topical creams Dexeryl and Locatop.

I am attaching his previous laboratory results for review.

  1. What is the possible diagnosis based on his symptoms and lab results?
  2. What treatment (creams or oral medication) do you recommend now?
  3. What can help reduce itching at night?
  4. What foods or conditions should we avoid?

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concern so clearly. I can completely understand your pain.

You mentioned the attachment of the report, but unfortunately, I could not see it. Please share it along with some photographs of the rashes. It will help me to advise you in a better way.

About the medicines you are using, I have no idea about Urlus, and I could not find it on the official medical database. Please give the complete name so I can comment on it.

Other medication Dexeryl (Glycerol, white paraffin) is good and to continue.

In place of Locatop (Desonide), I suggest you use Betnovate ointment (Betamethasone). Use these medicines as follows --

  • Dexeryl cream - Three to four times a day for seven days.

  • Betnovate skin ointment - Take a small quantity, mix with Dexeryl cream once in the morning and once at night before bed ( twice daily), and apply over rashes for seven days.

  • Do not use any cosmetics on the skin.

  • Food or other articles to avoid, depending on the allergies he is having. At this age, I will not recommend going for specific skin tests.

  • Better to observe and keep a record of his food, what he eats, and after which food his symptoms aggravate.

  • Share blood reports and photographs, and I will advise you accordingly.

I hope this helps you. You can message me back if you have any further queries.

Thank you.
