Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been experiencing nasal discomfort for a lot of days. My problem is two fold. I sometimes have a congested nose due to thick mucus and sometimes my nose goes dry when I am in an area with air conditioner and then feels like something is stuck in my nose.

When I try to breathe hard through my nasal passage, there is a slight pain. All of this is mostly on the right side of the nose and sometimes it is on the left.

I have seen an ENT doctor who prescribed Momeflo and Telekast L for my nasal congestion. I have stopped both after seven days but I still have this problem of a congested nose with dryness.

I am looking for some advice on nasal sprays that can relieve me of this discomfort. Currently, am not taking any medication. I use a humidifier at home at night.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It is likely an allergic rhinitis. Dryness is likely due to air conditioning. You should identify the trigger other than air conditioner like exposure to dust, vehicle pollutants or maybe some other trigger, and try to eliminate the exposure.

It is advisable that you continue Momeflo (Mometasone) nasal spray for two weeks at least, but since you already stopped it then should have an antiallergic nasal spray like Azelastine nasal spray two times a day for a week.

Also, for dryness, you should use Nasoclear nasal drops (Sodium chloride, Benzalkonium chloride) twice a day which is normal saline nasal drops and you can use it on regular basis for dryness and congestion.

Also, for nasal blockages, you may use Xylometazoline nasal drops, a drop in the blocked nose, whenever you are having severe nasal blockages. Steam inhalation intermittently if available will be helpful. If the problem still persists, then Ayurvedic syrup Damana is of great help to keep allergy down, so you may get it prescribed from a local Ayurvedic specialist.
