Patient's Query

Hi,

My grandmother has had Alzheimer's disease for the last ten years, which is getting worse. She neither sleeps at night nor does she let anyone else sleep at night. How to handle her? Everyone in the family is finding it hard to handle her. Because of which our other works are also getting affected since we don't sleep properly at night? Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Please answer a few questions so I can understand the situation better-

1. Is the diagnosis established for your grandmother?

2. Did she have an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) of the brain?

Since there can be mimickers of Alzheimer's disease.

If it is proven to be Alzheimer's disease, then a collaborative approach must be made by the neurologist, the occupational therapist for cognitive or behavioral rehabilitation, the psychologist, and a psychiatrist if she has depression.

I have these suggestions-

1. Tablet Memantine and Donepezil (Donepezil hydrochloride) can be given for dementia.

2. Quetiapine (Quetiapine fumarate) 25 mg can be given at 8 PM for sleep and behavior management.

I suggest you consult a specialist doctor, talk with them and take medicines with their consent.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
