Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

A few days back, I had unprotected sex twice, during which my partner did not ejaculate inside me (I was on the fifth day of my period). However, today morning I had unprotected sex three times, and two out of the three times, he ejaculated inside (I was on the seventh day of my period).

About four to six hours later, I took the morning-after pill.

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I fully understand your concern and will surely help you.

Going day by day,

The fifth day of the period - Ejaculation outside the vagina in unprotected intercourse.

Seventh day of the period - Twice ejaculation inside and once outside.

Now let me explain to you that you are in the reproductive age group, and I am hopeful, after seeing your height and weight, that you do not have PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and have regular periods.

See, to get pregnant, the sperm must be ejaculated inside the vagina of the female. These sperms then need to fertilize an egg which may or may not be available sometimes depending on the ovulation pattern of the female. Further, the fertilized egg is required to be implanted in the uterus of the female.

In your case, on the fifth day, although the boy ejaculated outside, even the precum, etc., has adequate sperm content to cause pregnancy. Further, after the seventh day, you took an emergency contraceptive pill, but it is not likely to protect you from pregnancy due to intercourse on the fifth day. The only thing is that, most likely, the egg would not have been there on the fifth day. So to be truthful, there is indeed a small chance of pregnancy, and it cannot be ruled out.

I would recommend that if you are sexually active, please go in for one of the many birth control options like birth control pills, patches, intrauterine devices, etc.

Feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

What is the fastest way for me to know if I am pregnant? I am so scared. I really do not want to be pregnant.

Thank you.

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Most likely, you should not get pregnant. However, to check earliest, I would recommend around 12 days. You can get a blood hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) test done.

Do not worry; I am always there for you. Next time, please do not assume that an ejaculation is an act that can cause pregnancy. Even precum, in a few cases, is known to cause pregnancy.

Please ping me anytime in case you need any help.

Thank you.
