Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had unprotected intercourse on the 18th day after having my periods. He did not insert it properly and withdraw it at the time of ejaculation. I took Unwanted 72 within four to five hours. I have a 30 to 32-day cycle. After having sex and taking Unwanted 72, I got my periods on time on the 30th day. It looked like my regular periods. It was heavy and lasted for four days. It has been a month. I did masturbation and after that, I saw a tiny drop of blood with mucus. I have a weird taste on the back of my mouth after eating for few days. I am worried. Can I be pregnant? Is it possible for me to get pregnant even after taking Unwanted 72 with improper insertion? Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. For getting pregnant, sperms have to be ejaculated inside the vagina. These sperms need to fertilize eggs. Even precum has certain sperm content leading to pregnancy. In your case, eggs may or may not be available and it depends on the ovulation pattern of the female. On the 18th day after periods, you can have a possibility of having the availability of eggs. When the egg gets fertilized, it gets implanted in the uterus. When these things happen successfully, then a female gets conceived. In your case, you had an improper insertion and took an emergency contraceptive pill immediately after sex. This emergency contraceptive pill works at three different stages.

Initially, it prevents the release of eggs from the ovary. If the egg is released already, then it thickens the vaginal fluid to avoid having fertilization of eggs. If the egg is fertilized already, then it prevents implantation in the uterus. As you have taken emergency contraceptive pill on time, there is a rare possibility for you to have pregnancy. These pills are effective. Regarding your last period, certain females can have light bleeding and spotting within ten days of taking an emergency contraceptive pill. But you had a good flow. Do not be worried about the drop of blood and mucus if you do not have any other complaints related to menstrual health. Taste does not have any association with menstrual patterns and so provide further details regarding this issue. Do not be stressed and worried as periods get delayed in 25 percent of females.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Initially, I noticed it for a week. I noticed changes in taste while eating cucumber. Even my brother told me that it tasted terrible. But I notice it mainly during lunchtime for the past few days. I am taking eye drops for few days. Can I have this issue due to eye drops?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

There are many reasons to have a bad or weird taste in the mouth. The reasons are digestion problems, acid reflux, and dental issues like gum infections. Observe your different types of taste like sweet, bitter, sour and see if it persists. I do not think that it could a significant problem. Stay safe from COVID-19 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2). It leads to metallic taste and loss of flavor.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Can I be pregnant? I am worried as my boyfriend consulted another doctor and he told that it is necessary to do a pregnancy test after three weeks even after getting periods as sometimes it can stay in tubes. Even a small thing makes me worried. Kindly suggest.

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It has been 40 days of having unprotected sex. There are certain indicators that help to know whether you are pregnant. Please mention whether you have any signs of pregnancy like fatigue and tenderness in the breast. It is a rare thing to have pregnancy in tubes. If you have missed your periods, then you need to do a urine pregnancy test for checking pregnancy. As you got your periods, then there is no need to be worried. If you are concerned, you can do a urine pregnancy test with the first urine of the day for having accurate results. Do not drink much fluid prior to the test. Adhere to all the guidelines written on the package of the kit.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

It has been 34 days. I did not have my periods. Is it possible due to emergency contraceptive pills? I have some mild symptoms of covid such as mild fever, cold, headache, and body ache. I am taking medicines for a week. Can I have delayed periods due to intake of medications? I consulted a doctor and he told me to do a covid test if the fever persists for more than three days.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Why do I have these symptoms?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Emergency contraceptive pills are hormone-based pills. They can cause side effects interfering with menstrual cycles in certain females. Stress can also cause it with COVID-19 medications.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

My doctor advises me to take Azithromycin, vitamin C and many more medicines. Is it good?

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I got my periods on time last month. But this time, I have not got it. Why?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Kindly give some additional details.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

He touched my vagina when he tried to insert it. He pulled out immediately before ejaculation. Can I have a possibility to become pregnant? Does ovulation day vary for everyone? What happens if it was my ovulation day? Can emergency contraceptive pill work in this situation? Before six years, I took Unwanted 72 after sex. I got heavy bleeding after three days. But this time, I have not got my periods even after 12 days. What to do?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If he just touched your vagina, then it is a rare thing to have pregnancy. Yes, ovulation day varies for every female. It depends on cycle length and other hormonal changes taken place in the body. Taking emergency contraceptive pills works in this condition. If it was your ovulation day, it delays the release of the egg after taking emergency contraceptive pills. Lots of changes take place in the body both mentally and physically in the last six years. Hormonal changes also take place and so you have not got your periods after taking a dose.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor.

I want to know whether COVID vaccine delays periods. Last month my period was on days 32-33. After one week, I got my vaccine. Last month there were lots of changes happening in my daily routine. Now in this month, before my periods, that is six days before my periods, I have protected intercourse (we use condoms) this time. Now, doctor, it's day 33, and I still have not to get my periods.

Thank you.

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

There are no actual data available to say that COVID vaccination results in menstrual irregularities. But yes, few women are reporting delayed or heavy periods. These effects are temporary. You can wait for your periods for another week. Do not take stress because it, in turn, will cause a delay in periods. Take care.

Thank you.
