Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 18 years old, and my weight is 150 lbs. I had my last period at the beginning of the previous month, and I had sex on the first week of the same month. My ovulation period was in the mid of the month. My period this time is different from the usual, and I have bloating and nausea. I have taken two pregnancy tests, but they are negative. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

To get pregnant, the sperm must be released inside the vagina of the female. These sperms then need to fertilize an egg which may or may not be available depending on the ovulation pattern of the female. Finally, the successfully fertilized egg must be implanted in the female's uterus, and when all this happens, a female is said to have conceived. But, since you had intercourse on the immediate days after the periods, the egg would not be available so early. But in rare cases, sperms, once released in the female vagina, can stay alive for five days but only in a few studies. So the chances of being pregnant are very few.

To assess the symptoms you have, please answer these questions:

  1. Was the intercourse protected or unprotected?
  2. When did you do the pregnancy test?
  3. Did you start some medication recently?
  4. Any physical activity you started recently?
  5. Any stress from studies or life issues etc.?
  6. Any dietary changes?

Also, share the details of the pregnancy test you did.

Kindly revert for further queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

We had both protected and unprotected sex multiple times a day. The latest test was done this morning when I noticed the light brown or red bleeding. I am not taking any medicines, just some supplements. There is no change to my routine or no stress or anything. I have a low appetite (only one meal per day), which I need to force myself. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have reviewed the test reports (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), and you are not pregnant. Multiple hormonal changes and day-to-day activities govern periods. If the period flow is significantly low, I suggest repeating the test and taking medicines to induce periods.

Thank you.
