My home pregnancy test kit shows positive one day and negative another day. Why is it so?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I did a pregnancy test yesterday, and it was positive. Today, however, I got very light bleeding, and it was pale in color, unusual to my standard period, and hence I did another pregnancy test which came out to be negative. Please explain why this has happened.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The pregnancy test which you did was at home. Time duration has got importance in the interpretation of the readings. I would suggest you get a sonography of your lower abdomen to rule out whether you are not. And if not, the positive result which you got in your home test would be due to the presence of any fetal pieces. I suggest one tablet of Trenaxa 500 mg (Tranexamic Acid), one tablet twice daily for three days, tablet Meftal Spas (Dicyclomine and Mefenamic Acid) tablet twice daily for two days. Take bed rest till the sonography report comes. Please revert with the sonography report so that proper treatment can be carried out. Feel free to ask if you have any other queries.
