Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am married and sexually active. I have a regular menstrual cycle. We had unprotected intercourse after seven days of my last period. Are there chances of getting pregnant? If yes, how should we terminate it as we are not prepared for it?

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

If your periods are regular and the duration is between 21 to 35 days, then ovulation would occur between 12 to 17 days of your cycle. This is called the fertile window and is the period of maximum fertility. Seventh-day of the menstrual cycle is a relatively safe time to have intercourse without the fear of pregnancy. If you are not sure or want to be more careful, I suggest you take an emergency contraceptive pill within 72 hours of intercourse. If you get pregnant, then termination can be done medically after a scan under the guidance of a medical practitioner. I hope this was useful.

Regards.
