Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had sexual intercourse around last month. The condom slipped off, so I took NorLevo after three hours. After that, I had five days of spotting and, two weeks later, four days of the menstrual cycle. Then after a month, I experienced only two days of heavy flux and nothing. I have noticed that my breasts are larger. I have taken three pregnancy tests and a blood hCG one. They all came up negative. Could I still be pregnant? I am really scared. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Do not worry. According to what you have described, all these changes happening to you are not because of pregnancy but because of the intake of pills. See, every medicine has its side effects, and this being a hormonal medicine, has a very common side effect of making the cycles and bleeding irregular. But this is not permanent. The effect usually lasts for two to three months, and everything will be normal.

And in your case, stress is also a factor contributing to irregular cycles. So stop taking the stress and relax; you are not pregnant, and pregnancy tests are negative. A blood beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) test is very reliable, and if it is still negative, that means you are not pregnant.

You can revert in case of further queries.

I hope you find it helpful.

Kind regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for reassuring me. So is it normal if my breasts look larger and I have gained some weight? Is it all due to hormonal imbalance?

Answered by Dr. Natasha Bansal

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, nothing is associated with pregnancy. These are not significant findings.

I hope you find it helpful.

Kind regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have seen my gynecologist, and everything seems going great. However, my periods are still irregular and less painful. Should I retake the HCG blood test? I am so worried. Could it be possible that I have an extrauterine pregnancy? Please help.

Thank you.

Answered by Dr. Natasha Bansal

Hi,

Thank you for stopping by again!

I am here to provide an expert opinion on your medical issues.

As I have already mentioned, periods are irregular due to the intake of that medicine only. This will revert to normal after a month or two. So there is nothing for you to worry about. For extrauterine pregnancy also beta HcG (Human chorionic gonadotropin) levels will increase. In your case beta HcG was negative. So it also can not be an extrauterine pregnancy. If you want you can repeat beta HcG, but I do not see any point or use of it.

I hope this information helps provide some insight into your symptoms.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions or concerns.

Thank you.

Hi doctor,

I have my period now. However, the flux is less. This is the third month after taking the Norlevo tablet. I hope things will improve by the next month.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My menstrual cycle is still scanty. I am trying to stay positive but I am worried at the same time. It has been almost four months since the Norlevo tablet intake. Should I take a pregnancy test again? Please help.

Thank you.

Answered by Dr. Natasha Bansal

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your first query consult is on us!

There is no need for a pregnancy test as you are getting your periods, even though in scanty. A test would have been required if your periods were delayed. For scanty periods, we need other investigations to know the cause. I suggest checking the following:

1. Thyroid profile.

2. Serum prolactin.

3. Fasting blood sugar.

4. Ultrasound pelvis.

Revert with these reports, so that we can assess the cause of scanty periods.

I hope this information helps provide some insight into your symptoms.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions or concerns.

Thank you.
