Patient's Query

Hi doctor, I was taking a shower, and I noticed something near my anus. It is kind of painful only when pressing it. Do you know what this might be? Could it be cancer?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query, and sorry for the discomfort you are facing.

I saw the pictures you have attached (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). In the picture, there is one single small bump that is erythematous, which means reddish in appearance. There is no pus discharge seen in the picture or no pus collection as white or yellow color around the lesion as of now. The last picture does not correlate well as there is no hair in the picture whereas the other two has similar lesions or small reddish bump with surrounding hairs.

I would say that it is not cancer. You need not worry about it.

I suggest it is folliculitis or a small boil in the buttock area around the anus. You should not scratch it with nails at all.

1) How long has it been there?

2) Is there any recurrence of such lesion in the back?

3) Any pain or discomfort while sitting?

Folliculitis is the inflammation of the hair follicles due to an infection, injury, or irritation. Mostly it is due to the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus.

I would suggest you the following:

1) Make a warm compress by soaking a clean cloth in the hot water.

2) Apply the compress over the affected area for ten minutes three to four times a day till it ruptures. If there is pus in it, applying a warm compress helps in fast healing.

3) Take a regular pain reliever like tablet Paracetamol or Ibuprofen if it is painful. Avoid tablet intake if there is very mild pain due to the lesion.

4) Wear loose-fitting clothes. Also, wear loose innerwear and keep the area dry and airy.

5) Apply antiseptic cream like Chlorhexidine over the lesion.

6) You can apply antibiotic cream over the lesion if it is not resolving.

7) Do not scratch or squeeze it in an attempt to empty the pus early.

8) Wash your hand before and after touching the lesion to prevent the spread of infection.

It will resolve within a week hopefully. So follow the above-suggested measures, and it would help to clear away.

Take care.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your concern.

It is present for the past five days. No, there is no such lesion in the back and I have mild pain if sitting directly on it, or if I press it with my finger. Will it go away on its own? Do you think this is a boil? But it does not contain any fluid in it.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, I think it is folliculitis or a small boil that could have ruptured while taking bath and washing the private area or due to the frequent sitting posture. Also, I find one tiny opening in one of your boils as if it has already ruptured, and the contents are out by now.

Just follow the above-suggested measures including warm compression, antiseptic cream application, and if needed antibiotic cream.

Have you done any urine tests for hematuria?

If yes, what did your primary care doctor say regarding it? This is just to make sure that everything is fine. Do reply about it.

Please follow up if you have any further health-related queries, and I would try my best to guide you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Regarding the urine, it is fine, and I totally forgot about that one. This issue is really driving me crazy. It looks like a growth that stretches and looks like a growth or skin-like skin tag but does not look like a skin tag. I do not get it from where this came out now. It is like extra skin, which hurts when I press on it. The white thing is Hydrocortisone cream.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thanks for the follow-up, sir. I saw the picture you have attached. Can you send a picture again taken at some distance and without the cream to analyze better what it could be? Is it in the same area you had the lesion you asked about two days ago? Thanks.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

This is the best I could do. The skin seems to form like a skin tag when I let go holding my butt cheeks. I do not get it, and it looks like a skin tag when I stop stretching my butt. Yes, it is the same area, but I do not know exactly how long this has been here?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Sorry for the delay in the reply, sir. I saw the picture you have attached. It is not a skin tag as it does not grow overnight and does not appear like a skin tag. It is the localized skin thickening due to the folliculitis or small boil that you had four to five days back. Is there any itching or any pain in that area? Thanks.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I had itching before, but now it stopped. Pain occurs only when I sit directly on it, but the pain rating is 2/10 or 1/10. I have very little pain. What does it mean if you have pain?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Ok, sir. I asked about pain symptoms to know whether some active inflammation or infection is still present or not. Very mild pain means inflammation is subsiding. Do not scratch with the nail directly or from over the cloth or innerwear. Do not worry about it. You can do a warm compress with a cloth soaked in hot water for a few minutes two to three times a day and continue the local application of the cream. The hardness of the skin area you feel on touch would resolve in a few days. Thanks.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

So I can ease my mind that this is nothing like skin cancer right?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Absolutely you can ease your mind that it is not skin cancer. Follow the above-suggested measures, and hopefully, it will resolve soon. I will also follow you in another upcoming five to seven days. Kindly reply in the follow-up message with a picture. Thanks.

Hello sir, I hope you are doing well. How is the lesion? Any improvement in it? I will follow up again in another five days to know about the lesion. So do reply in the follow-up message with a picture to assess better. If needed, you may drop a message early if you want any further suggestions.

Take care. Thanks.
