Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had an anal fissure one hour ago. It is bleeding quite a bit when I go to the toilet, not much pain, just a little aching and uncomfortable feeling.

Should I see a doctor about this? Is seeing blood in my stools and toilet paper in this situation common? Or should I go to a doctor?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Well, if it is confirmed an anal fissure and if not bleeding much, which means bleeding just 1 to 2 tablespoon full with each stool, then you need not see a doctor immediately. Did you have a forceful passage of hard stools? Because hard stools with straining are commonly the cause of the development of anal fissure. It heals spontaneously in a week. You need to take fiber daily for at least a week or two, use Xylocaine (lignocaine) gel 2% ointment for application into the anal canal for pain relief, and use tablet Tranexamic (antifibrynolytic) acid 500 mg thrice daily for three days till the bleeding completely settles down. If the blood you noticed is mixed with stools and you also had some loose bowel habits, then this may or may not be the anal fissure, and in that case, I suggest you provide more information as I can recommend you the best course of management. Plus, upload the picture of the blood if you have taken it.

Regards.
