Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am having itching in and around my anus from the past few weeks. It is way too itchy, especially at night. I am a 31-year-old female. I had vaginal infection last year.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Hope you are having a good day and staying safe. I understand your concern. From your history, I understand you are having pruritis ani, itchy anus. Please do not panic, as when we find out the cause and treat specifically, it can back to normal. Pruritis Ani can be caused due to many reasons such as infections - bacterial and yeast or fungal infections, Contact dermatitis, eczema due to irritant products including certain soaps, Lichen sclerosis, which is a condition causing thickness of the anal mucosa/ tissue, Hemarrhoids, constipation, and lack of hygiene. You can follow some measure like. Use non- soap cleanser for washing the area. Avoid use of toilet paper, use towels with gentle usage. Avoid the use of lubricants. Have a diet rich in fibres like green leafy vegetables, oats, flax seeds , cereals, plantain. Avoid foods like cola, caffienated drinks, spicy food , citrus foods, dairy products , chocolate , peanuts as these can increase itching. Avoid scratching the area. Please get yourself examined at a local dermatologist to examine the anal region for any color change or thickness, and fungal or bacterial infections, any bleedings or protusions. You can take tablet Cetirizine 10 mg once in the night for itching to subside, also apply Vaseline or Zinc paste to repel moisture to prevent fungal growth. If too much pain in the area, you can apply lidocaine gel 2 % in the night.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
