Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 75-year-old woman. I had experienced depression on and off in my life. My doctor prescribed Lexapro 10 mg for anxiety, depression, and sleeplessness. Unfortunately, after using the medication, I have been experiencing darkness, despair, isolation, intolerable depression, and insomnia for the past five days. I feel like I cannot take this anymore, although I am sure there is an end. Is there any medication that I can take to solve this condition? I am currently taking Atenolol 50 mg, Atorvastatin 20 mg, and Amlod L 5 mg.

Kindly help. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It is normal to have an increase in anxiety with any selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) drug like Escitalopram, especially in the first few days of starting the drug or when the dose is increased. To minimize the anxiety, it is better to start with a low dose and then increase the dose after a couple of weeks. For Escitalopram, 5 mg is the starting dose and is increased to 10 mg after 10 to 14 days. Another way to minimize anxiety and restlessness is to take low-dose Benzodiazepine with Escitalopram. Consult your specialist doctor, talk with them, and take meditations with their consent.

I hope I was helpful to you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your response.

I will reduce the dosage of Lexapro 10 mg for the next few days and see if that helps.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, that would definitely help. Consult your specialist doctor, talk with them and reduce the dosage with their consent.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
