Can antibiotics increase the WBC count with the symptoms of strep throat infection seven days earlier?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am pregnant and in my second trimester. I had a strep throat infection seven days earlier. I took Amoxicillin for three days (three times a day). The fever and symptoms are gone. After two days, I had a complete blood count and finished my antibiotics course. The CBC report showed a high WBC count. Is it due to antibiotics? What do you suggest further? I am worried and need your kind advice.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Please provide further details regarding your present symptoms and the CBC (complete blood count) report.

CBC is to be done before starting the antibiotics and not after, as the antibiotics may affect the report.

The following details are required to give you proper suggestions.

  1. What is the value of WBC counts?

  2. What symptoms do you have now?

  3. Is there any difference in symptoms after antibiotics?

If you are not having symptoms and the count is not high, take precautions like mouth wash, steam inhalation, and an analgesic gel message locally.

If you have a fever, and a higher WBC count, you will need another course of antibiotics.

Also, have a check on fetal movements.

After you recover, walk daily and have a healthy diet.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
