Anticardiolipin Antibody Acl

Anticardiolipin antibodies (ACL) are auto-antibodies produced by the body's immune system against its own cardiolipins (found on platelets and cell membranes). The measurement of anticardiolipin antibody levels in the blood is used to diagnose the anti-phospholipid syndrome. Increased anticardiolipin antibodies are seen in 40 percent of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), with fetal loss, thrombocytopenia, and venous or arterial thrombosis.
