Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 15 year old, over the past three years, I have noticed myself getting into extremely negative mindsets for months at a time, and I just have no motivation to do anything. Sometimes it gets to the point where I get suicidal thoughts. I used to self-harm. These negative mindsets usually last a few months. I suddenly feel fine and feel like I could do anything, and I start acting overly excitable and happy, according to my friends, but this also usually lasts around for few months. I have had therapy before, but it did not really help because I could not be honest with my therapist as I did not really trust her. I have been diagnosed with anxiety for four years now, and I get panic attacks sometimes. My best friend told me that I should see a doctor. I just wanted to get a second opinion to make sure everything is fine.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

What I feel about your description is that there is an element of psychiatric illness. It may be anxiety, bipolar disorder, or borderline personality disorder. A complete and detailed assessment is required before we can reach a conclusion. Yes, you are right in saying that having frequent suicidal thoughts is not a normal thing.

I hope it helps you. Thank you.
