Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My stepdaughter has been diagnosed with gut dysbiosis and is currently following the standard protocol of prebiotics and probiotics, among other treatments. However, her severe anxiety is impacting her school attendance and social life. Are there any medications that can effectively alleviate her anxiety? Kindly guide.
Thank you.

Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
She is a 20-year-old college student striving to graduate.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
There are non-pharmacological strategies that can help manage her anxiety (excessive worry). I suggest the following guidelines:
Encourage her to exercise for 30 to 45 minutes daily, such as walking.
Suggest meditation for 20 minutes daily, where she can sit comfortably and focus on her normal breathing without trying to stop her thoughts.
Promote a healthy diet of home-cooked foods and advise her to avoid junk foods.
Ensure she drinks an adequate amount of water daily.
Encourage her to spend quality time with friends and family daily.
Suggest engaging in creative hobbies like reading, writing, painting, drawing, or learning new skills or languages.
Emphasize the importance of getting seven to eight hours of sleep each night.
Discourage tobacco, alcohol, or substance abuse.
Help her find purpose and meaning in life.
Encourage her to be bold and confident in facing her challenges.
Medication may be necessary if her symptoms persist after following these recommendations for four to six weeks.
Additionally, I suggest the following blood tests:
Complete blood count (CBC).
Thyroid profile.
Vitamin D3 levels.
Vitamin B12 levels.
Random blood sugar (RBS).
In the future, you may consider starting her on a daily dose of 10 mg of Escitalopram after breakfast. Consult your doctor and take the medicines.
I hope this helps.
Please revert in case of further queries.
Thank you.

It is great that you are following the guidelines. I suggest your daughter consider the medication mentioned above. It is regarded as one of her best and safest options. Its side effects are minimal, typically involving gastric issues, but otherwise, there are no significant concerns.
I hope this helps.
