Patient's Query

I am an 18-year-old student. For most of my life, I've always struggled with attention problems and I can, to a very high degree, associate a lot of what I'm experiencing with symptoms of ADHD/ADD. I've done a good job for most of my life covering it up and using the excuse of 'it's just a phase, I'll outgrow it' to keep optimistic; however, after realizing that what most people call an off-day is most, if not all, my days, I want to speak out and talk to someone about what I'm facing, just to have some closure and comfort. These problems have put quite a strain on my outlook on everything I do and I really want to improve myself, because as much as it may seem like I'm convincing myself, I feel like I have a lot of potentials, but my attention problems just make me feel useless.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq

- I note that you have been troubled by difficulties with attention since your childhood. ADD/ADHD may be a possibility and thorough evaluation will be needed to clarify the diagnosis

- Usually assessment will include getting information from you, developmental history from your parents and corroborative information from your teachers/ school reports - this will help to determine the pervasive nature of the symptoms and aid in correct diagnosis.

- I'll suggest completing on self -report rating scale.

- Then discuss with your parents and consult a specialist in your city for assessment. If you fulfil criteria for a diagnosis, there are treatment options like medication and psychosocial interventions to manage the inattention problem

- Well done for managing to join a medical course despite these difficulties. It shows your resilience and with some added support/guidance you will be able to manage even better

Hope this helps
