Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a mild swelling near Adam's apple. I have acute pain in the back of my neck and ears. I got the tests done. The report states TSH is 13 mIU/L and Anti-TPO is 209 IU/mL.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Swelling near Adam's apple is most likely a thyroid swelling. Normal TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) level is 0.5-5 mIU/L. Your high TSH level confirms that it is a thyroid swelling.

Elevated anti-TPO antibody (anti-thyroid peroxidase antibody) suggests autoimmune thyroiditis. It means your body's protective mechanism is attacking your own thyroid gland. But, there is nothing to be worried.

You need to take thyroid supplement daily. I advise you to take tablet Thyronorm 50 mcg every morning on empty stomach.

You may require medicines lifelong but otherwise, your life will be pretty much normal.

Avoid cabbage, cauliflower, and spinach. Also, repeat the TSH test after six weeks.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
