Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I want to know if there is a good Ayurvedic multivitamin for a person of 76 years of age. Also, can Moringa and Giloy be taken together? Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. There are no such multivitamins in Ayurveda. Instead of that, I suggest you can give normal supplements to him such as Zincovit (multivitamin) syrup or tablet. I would like to know, why are you giving him Moringa and Giloy? Is there any reason? Does he have diabetes or hypertension? Giloy and Moringa are a good option during old age, and I suggest they can be given together in the right dose (not more than 0.14 oz). It has a good antioxidant property. Also, Ashwagandha churna is good for maintaining overall health. I also suggest you mix one teaspoon of Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) in warm milk or water, and it is to be taken at night after food. For more information about the right supplement or medicine, we need his complete medical history like gastric issues, diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, etc.

Kindly revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Since my mother has CKD, she does not eat green leafy vegetables, so my father is also not eating any because he does not want it to be cooked separately only for him. I heard Moringa has a good amount of nutrients that can compensate for some of the missing nutrients, so I want him to take it. Giloy is good for immunity, so that is why I asked. So basically, for general health (when someone has no health problems), can he take Moringa, Giloy, and Ashwagandha every day? If in tablet form, is one tablet of Moringa, one tablet of Giloy, and one teaspoon of Ashwagandha to be taken daily? Do you need to give a break from these medicines? For example, when a person takes Calcium tablets, it is not supposed to be taken continuously. Also, is there an alternative in Ayurveda for Calcium tablets for his age? Currently, he is taking a multivitamin, Vitamin B-complex, Cod liver oil capsule, and an Ayurvedic joint lubricant daily. Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. I suggest the tablet form of Giloy, Ashwagandha, and Moringa can be taken regularly and continuously for three months. There is no need for any break between as they are considered a food supplement. I also suggest, Moringa or Giloy can be taken on an empty stomach, but Ashwagandha is taken after food as in some patients, we noticed slight gastric discomfort. But it is a powerful immune booster, and also it reduces stress and prevents hypertension. I also suggest that Chyavanprash (Amlas, Pippali, Svadamstra) is another good option. It is said to have so many nutritional compositions. But make sure he does not have diabetes or related symptoms. If not, then it is a good choice. It is to be taken one teaspoon in the morning and night after food. There is good calcium content present in Hadjod (Cissus quadrangularis). You take it in powder form with honey or water. Or you can simply prepare chutney from it and include it in a regular diet. I also suggest Ayurvedic calcium supplements like syrup Aimil Boniheal (Giloy, Nirgundi, Shilajit, Black Cumin) two teaspoons twice. Tablet Calskel Nutra (calcium supplement) one tablet twice a day, and tablet Reosto (Commiphora wightii, Pluchea lanceolata, Sida cordifolia) one tablet twice a day.

Thank you.
